Purchasing & Procurement Manager @ Terumo Europe – Leuven

The Purchasing & Procurement department, operates from the EMEA HQ in Leuven and provides support to all departments, plants, branches and BU’s across the EMEA region for the purchase of products and services from 3rd party suppliers.

To head this department, Purson and Terumo Europe are jointly looking for the next Purchasing & Procurement Manager.


As Purchasing & Procurement Manager you lead a team of 3 strategic buyers who focus on source to contract buying, several Procure to Pay operational buyers and two supplier development specialists. You will provide vision and leadership to this newly set up procurement organization and objectives.

  • You develop & ensure the implementation of the purchase & procurement vision and strategy in EMEA
  • You optimize and support the change processes within the organization, through active participation in key projects.
  • You empower associates to feel ownership over their careers and feel connected to resources to help them grow and learn. You manage & develop your team, achieve results through people and lead by example.
  • You follow-up on market trends, innovation and there for continuously aim to build a best-in-class procurement & purchasing organization.
  • You act as the ambassador of the procurement department, bringing them closer to the business and enable a smooth collaboration.
  • You provide forecasts regarding price and procurement trends and anticipate on their potential impact on the company.
  • You participate actively to the annual budget process.
  • You track & report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness. You make sure there is a risk assessment procedure in place for supply contracts and agreements.
  • You control the entire spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs and bringing added value to the company.
  • On a transactional level, you are able to quickly get a grip on a rising volume of PR’s & PO’s and bring your team to the most efficient level of performance
  • On a strategic level, you are able to oversee the entire spend portfolio: raw materials, technical buying + capex, indirect spend.
  • On supplier development, you set priorities and monitor key suppliers/stakeholders.
  • You participate in key negotiations.

  • You are able to head a multi-focus team with different personalities, knowing people development and a positive approach are key.
  • You emphasize service mindedness, you challenge the business and you have a good knack for processes and efficiency.
  • You are at ease building a network within the company, acting as the face of procurement. You identify and work around good business opportunities, generate respect and aim to continuously optimize your department.
  • You are able to adapt to different kind of suppliers, stakeholders and team members. You get the best out of every collaboration/relationship.
  • You understand the challenges of expanding procurement’s footprint, teaming up with liaised companies and intercompany purchases.
  • You know how to operate in an international environment, additionally you show relevant experience in heading a procurement & purchasing team.
  • Your strong analytical skillset allows you to perform overall spend analysis, PO/invoice analysis and work with complex data sets.
  • You set up winning collaborations with your supply base.
  • You set ambitious goals but can be patient,  setting the right milestones with continuous improvement in mind. You can overcome resistance and are able to work uner pressure.
  • You show high energy, drive & passion.
