Job description

As Buyer Ingredients you are in charge for your category of ingredients which means you are responsible for maintaining supplier relations, follow-up of relevant market information about ingredients, suppliers, and fairs. Furthermore, you follow-up market trends and possible innovations. In close cooperation with your colleagues from QA, R&D, sales, suppliers, etc. you propose new optimizations.

  • You maintain daily supplier relationships. You negotiate agreements (price agreements / contracts) and conclude with the suppliers.
  • You formulate internal needs to the supplier for existing and new ingredients.
  • You follow-up changes in specifications, packaging, sustainability questions in consultation with the QA, NPD, etc.
  • You determine and negotiate price, quality and optimal order quantities and you keep up to date on internal procedures and supplier data. You do this by a tendering process if relevant for the ingredient category.
  • You build, maintain, and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
  • You collect and maintain relevant market and supplier information. You monitor and analyze the financial and logistic risks for each ingredient category and supplier.
  • Follow up and analyze the international and European markets and identify new ingredients that can offer added value. You select and contact (international) suppliers that meet our criteria and you assess their quality and solvency.
  • You are responsible for further expanding internal relations with R&D / sales / quality / production sites to optimally translate Vandemoortele’s requirements to suppliers.
  • You suggest and perform optimization exercises and submit tenders per ingredients category.
  • You provide the necessary business support. This includes e.g. the creation and maintenance of data in SAP (material master / vendor master / conditions / contracts / source list / etc.).
  • Furthermore, you are responsible for making spend analysis from existing suppliers in the context of price negotiations, preparing the annual budget exercise and giving support during the execution, acting as a point of contact in case of structural complaints, claims or out-of-stock, etc.
  • You report on business progress/projects within your portfolio on a weekly basis
  • You strive to make your portfolio future proof in a more sustainable way and you actively support the sustainability strategy and processes of the company
  • You evaluate and implement actions coming out of the yearly vendor rating process.
  • Finally, you are also responsible for some general administrative support tasks. This includes, among other things, that you request internal quality of ingredients from the quality department, follow-up and pass on price instructions for ingredients, etc.

Profile

  • You hold a master’s degree in engineering or economics
  • You have 3-5 years of experience in purchase, preferably within the food industry or experience in project management.
  • Above all you are ambitious, energetic, driven and open to receive and give challenges. Your drive and enthusiasm will motivate you to go the extra mile in engaging others.
  • As a food lover, you are passionate by food.
  • Your excellent communication and persuasion skills enable you to motivate, drive and engage your internal (R&D, production, purchase, logistics, master data, …) and external stakeholders.
  • You proactively contribute to the team and actively commit to the team development. You are stress resistant, pragmatic, problem-solving (thinking out of the box).
  • You can work together on major projects, and you like to take ownership.
  • You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, in English and French/Dutch.
  • You are willing to travel 10% of your time (short trips and fairs).
  • For this exciting role you will be working at our HQ based in Ghent.
